Vote Mob Young Voter Project
A Message from 21st Century Dems
This
year, there's been a lot of talk about organizing young voters. Here at
21st Century Democrats, with your help, we're actually doing it.
In June,
after months of planning, we took it to the streets: an innovative
project focused on young voters in battleground states. We've opened
six offices already in Ohio, Oregon, and Minnesota.
Our amazing organizers are out in the community every day, talking to potential Democratic voters under the age of 35.
In just
15 days, we've contacted 25,000 potential voters under the age of
35. We've recruited over 400 volunteers and identified 16,200
supporters who need reminders to get to the polls.
We call
it “Vote Mob.” Teams of organizers and volunteers go to amusement
parks, movie theaters (Farenheit 9/11 has been great!), community
centers, concerts, arts festivals, and downtown hotspots – anywhere we
can find voters under 35. In August, we'll start organizing on campuses
and canvassing intensively in youth neighborhoods.
Non-partisan
groups like Rock the Vote are working harder than ever to register
young voters and promote voting. But these groups are constrained by
campaign finance laws from actually talking about issues and candidates.
Not us.
We're one of the few Democratic organizations doing the one thing that
is proven to work: direct, peer-to-peer persuasion. Our young
organizers and volunteers are convincing messengers. They're not
afraid to talk about what Republicans are really doing to this country
and why young voters have to stop them.
We're
gathering cell phone numbers, email addresses, dorm addresses, and
instant message handles. We get the kind of information you don't find
on traditional voter files.
Sincerely,
Lilah Pomerance
