NewsFlash! DemocracyFest Location Changed
A Message from Jessica, event organizer
I had to make a decision tonight to cancel DemocracyFest or move it. I chose not to cancel it.
First the bad news:
Our
permit was revoked for Butternut in Great Barrington because there was
a stipulation in the permit that we would have to pay $30k for police
and private security. With the original expected attendance, this would
have been ok, but because of the number of tickets we have sold, we
just didn't have enough money. I drove down to a board meeting tonight
and tried to get the security amount reduced, but the board refused. I
am sorry.
Now the good news:
I found
another place at the last minute. DemocracyFest will now be held at The
Crowne Plaza Hotel in Pittsfield, MA, and it is really nice. It is
about 30 minutes north of Great Barrington.
You will
now be attending a VIP event. We will have an outside area and workshop
rooms on Saturday, and a large ballroom and workshop rooms on Sunday.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Sat, and lunch and dinner on Sun will
now be included. Sunday morning breakfast tickets can be purchased at http://bloggersbreakfast.blogharbor.com/blog
I
realize that this affects some travel plans. I ask that you try to find
a solution by yourself through tomorrow. If you can not, please email
me and I will help you. I have been thrown every curve ball that is
possible in planning this event. I will find a way to get you there and
a place to stay.
If you
planned on camping, there are several campgrounds in the area. Please
consider what you would have spent on food for the weekend and reserve
a campsite or an inexpensive motel. Rooms are also available at the Crowne Plaza.
We
still need about $3k more to cover the expenses for the hotel. I know I
have asked everyone to donate many times, and I promise to never ask
any of you to donate to anything ever again after this week, but if you
could please just make one more contribution to this event, we really need you to.
Signed,
a physically and emotionally exhausted Jessica
