News Flash: Rialto In Pocahontas to Show F9/11

We did it!

Apparently, the Rialto Theatre
in Pocahontas has received enough support indicating the desire to see
Michael Moore's documentary, “Fahrenheit 9/11,” that they have decided
to show the movie in August.

Blog
for Iowa's readers joined with other activists in the Pocahontas area
asking the independent Rialto Theatre to show the film that has been
banned in small-town Iowa by the Fridley chain.

Here is the press release the Rialto Theatre issued this morning:

“The running of Fahrenheit 9/11 is being run like any other movie we
book with no political statement whatsoever being made by the
theatre.  Our reason for showing F9/11 is just like any other
movie we show.  This movie has grossed well and we believe the
interest to see it is out there.  Any advertising paid for by any
other group or party promoting the movie Fahrenheit 9/11 at the Rialto
is being done strictly on their own and was not approved by the
management.”

Way to advertise a movie!

Well, we achieved our objective, which was 1) to indicate to the Rialto
management that the “interest to see it is out there,” and 2) to get
them to bring the film to Pocahontas.  As usual, money talks and
the film's stellar grosses, week after week, and the fact that Fridley
is not showing the film (I hear from another source) played into the
decision.

We are grateful to the Rialto Theatre and hope they get a huge turn out.

“Fahrenheit 9/11” is tentatively scheduled for either August 13 or August 20.  I'll update you as soon as I hear for sure.
