In Which America Do You Believe?

In which America do you believe?

by Darrell Lewis

The Radical Right's America…

In this
America, we live under a constant state of fear.  We fear
terrorists and go into unjustified wars.  We fear Muslims, because
they are not like us and we don't understand them.  We fear for
our jobs being moved to India, and so we give into corporate demands
and accept lower wages and poorer working conditions.  We fear the
catastrophic effects of major medical illnesses and we accept inferior
health insurance because its better then none.  We fear
affirmative action, because we think we will lose our jobs, although we
are actually losing millions of jobs because corporations are moving
jobs overseas, not because they are giving them to needy
Americans.  We fear immigrants and oppose assisting them, even
though our parents, grandparents or great grandparents were once
immigrants.

Our view of America…

We
reject the politics of fear and embrace the traditional American
message of hope.  We know this country is a great place to
be.  We know we can be even better.  We believe in
opportunity and equality for ALL Americans.  We believe that the
diversity of America is what distinguishes it from the rest of the
world and what makes it great.  We believe that all Americans,
given equal opportunity, can and will succeed.  We believe that
ALL Americans deserve health care and the highest levels of education
and job training. We will continue to fight for an America where hope
and opportunity takes priority over fear.

So what kind of person are you?
Do you believe the glass is half empty or half full?  Do you
believe in an America that lives in fear or an America that lives with
hope?
