Call to Action: Rialto Theatre in Pocahontas
According
to a Blog for Iowa reader in Laurens, the Rialto Theatre in Pocahontas
will not be showing “Fahrenheit 9/11.” The manager, Tonya Speer,
says the one-screen theater is booked through August 12 with no plans
to show F 9/11.
Speer
cited two reasons for not carrying the film: 1) she thought interest
would have died down by the middle of August, and 2) she said R-rated
movies never do well for her.
We don't
want to launch a protest, certainly, but for those of us in the
surrounding area, i.e., Clay, BV, Calhoun, Pocahontas, Palo Alto, Humboldt
and Kossuth counties, it may well be worth it to write in and politely
ask for her to schedule F 9/11 – that is, if you actually intend to
drive to Pocahontas to see it.
When
writing to Tonya, please be polite, indicate your willingness to drive
to Pocahantas, and give her your name, address, and telephone number so
she knows she's not being set up to lose money.
I've written to Tonya, too, and offered to set up the DFIA PR machine to help her publicize the movie.
And then, if, in the end, she does agree to show the documentary, take all your friends!
