Andrew Smith: Traer Democrat Determined To Beat Republican Incumbent
This energetic young man caucused for Dean!
Waterloo/Cedar Falls Courier
TRAER — Andrew Smith always knew he would run for public office.
He just didn't know it would be this soon.
The
25-year-old Democrat says the fire in his belly was ignited during an
incident last spring. While attending a late night session of the
Senate appropriations committee Smith was appalled at the indifference
some legislators in the Republican-controlled Legislature showed toward
a multi-billion dollar budget spending plan. He was an intern for Sen.
Bob Kreiman, a Democrat from Bloomfield.
[In June] – less than three months later – Smith formally announced
he would fight incumbent Rep. Lance Horbach, a Tama Republican, for the
District 40 seat in the Iowa House of Representatives. The district
encompasses all of Grundy County and most of Tama County.
The
Drake University law school student may be on the young side to run for
a seat in the Iowa House of Representatives — candidates must be 21.
But he's confident voters will like his platform.
