Today is a BIG DAY on the verified voting scene, with a rally just south of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC.
The
rally will include election reformers not only from the mothership,
Democracy for America, but also from Rock the Vote, MoveOn, True
Majority and Verified Voting.
The
decisions Congress makes in the next month will determine what voting
systems many Americans will use this November and for years to come.
Americans should not have to vote on paperless touchscreen machines
that have a documented history of malfunctioning and that are highly
vulnerable to malicious hacking.
Rep.
Rush Holt's (D-NJ) HR.2239 and Senator Bob Graham's (D-FL) companion
bill, S.1980, the Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act of
2003, would require e-voting machines to include a VVPB (voter-verified
paper ballot) by November or to provide a paper ballot alternative if
states can't retrofit the machines with a paper trail by then.
This important bill already has 141 co-sponsors in the House, but is
stuck in committee.

Blog For Iowa 
A sad note to share with my friends today. Earlier today my 42 year old cousin lost his battle with cancer. He leaves behind a wife and two teen-age daughters.
His death may have been another needless tragedy of our current regime in Washington. You see, David had lost his job and was without insurance. His wife's job provided no benefits either. With there limited financial resources, seeing a doctor when ill was reserved for his children and not him.
By the time he was so ill that he was convinced to see a doctor, it was too late. The cancer had spread throughout his whole body. The end came quickly, less then two months after his visit to the doctor, although the cancer had been eating away at him for a much longer time.
When will this country stop sentencing the poor and unemployeed to death?
