Iowa's Population will Increase by More than 13 Percent by 2030

(Cedar Rapids, Iowa-AP) — Population growth in the Iowa City-Cedar Rapids technology corridor over the next 30 years is expected to outpace statewide growth. . . .

While Iowa's population is expected to grow by 13 percent through 2030, the research said, Johnson County will have almost 50 percent more residents by 2030.

Seniors now account for nearly 15 percent of Iowa's population, according to data released recently by the U.S. Census Bureau.  Further, Iowa ranks fifth among the nation's states in percentage of the population aged 65 and over.

More than 6 percent of the state's estimated 433,618 older residents live in the Waterloo area, including 17,700 in Black Hawk County alone, according to the State Data Center of Iowa's most recent statistics.

But while the state's senior population continues to rise, Iowa's overall growth remains slow.

“Iowa's rate of growth relative to the rest of the country is very low,” Census Bureau spokesperson Robert Bernstein confirmed. “It is well below the national average.”
