And don’t forget how the obscure Joni Ernst was launched into her inglorious political career abandoning Iowans in favor of billionaires even before she reminded us that “we are all going to die. I remember very well her comments praising the “wonderful” Koch network.
Here she is as a candidate for U.S. Senate speaking at the Kochs’ semi-annual political strategy meeting on June 16, 2014 in Dana Point, California at the St. Regis Monarch Bay Resort. Eleven years later she will announce her intention to not run for re-election, basically resigning in disgrace.

If you need another reason to not vote for a Koch connected candidate, look at the harm the Republicans in the Iowa lehislature have done to Iowa over the last decade at least. Nine years ago, then state senator from Iowa City, Democrat Joe Bolkcom speaking at a legislative forum, explained to constituents that the Koch Brothers were in “firm control” at the Iowa state house. What good has come from that?

Well said! There are so many reasons not to vote for Lahn. And as someone obsessed with Iowa water issues, I will add that he is doing a very poor job of even pretending to have adequate water proposals. The Iowa Farm Bureau, the most anti-environment organization in Iowa, does much better water-pretending than Zach has managed so far. Please, Iowans, let’s not embarrass ourselves in national news coverage by taking this guy’s alleged water concern seriously.

Easy to predict what will happen. When asked about whether he will accept Koch $ or other corporate group, Lahn will say no. Americans for Prosperity will kick in tens of millions; none of this will show up in any campaign disclosure form. The advocacy groups, now prepared, need to pepper Lahn or Hinson and others with questions on this, or social media used to dramatize this. Chris Jones can’t do this. Other states may have better ideas on how to combat a Lahn who will righteously say that they have no say over the money and will not receive corporate PAC dollars

It’s easy to predict the response. If asked whether he’ll accept Koch network or other corporate money, Lahn can simply say, “No.” Meanwhile, outside groups like Americans for Prosperity could spend tens of millions independently, and that money won’t appear on his campaign finance reports. That’s why advocacy organizations—not the opposing campaign—need to keep asking whether he welcomes or rejects that outside spending. They should also use social media to highlight the distinction. A candidate can truthfully say they don’t control independent expenditures, but that shouldn’t end the conversation about who benefits from them.
