Armistice Day Celebration In Iowa City

Organizer Ed Flaherty of Iowa City Veterans for Peace said the Iowa City event was the the only Armistice Day celebration in Iowa. A small but mighty crowd attended to honor all veterans. The ringing of the bells was followed by remarks by James Zogby, songs and a luncheon.

It’s good there was an event in Iowa City. There was a parade that morning in Davenport and in the afternoon, at the Bettendorf Veterans Park, there was also an event honoring all Veterans.

Thanks for commenting, Molly. As explained to me, Armistice Day is specifically celebrating the end of WWI. Years later the holiday was changed to Veterans Day.
