Rob Hogg: “The Need For Climate Action Is More Urgent Than Ever”

From our inbox:  Action request from Rob Hogg –

Regardless of the election results, the climate crisis is accelerating and the need for climate action is more urgent than ever. Several Iowans died in disasters this year, and overall Iowans suffered more than $550 million in disaster damage this year (over $170 per Iowan).

Here are four things you can do to take climate action:

1. Send our Congressional delegation a message supporting climate action.

Here is a link from the nonpartisan organization Citizens Climate Lobby where you can easily send an email message to our delegation to urge them to protect existing climate work and support more climate solutions:

2. Iowa Farmers Union Conference in Ames, Dec. 6-7

The Iowa Farmers Union is Iowa’s oldest and most progressive non-profit farm organization. This conference includes a workshop on farming and climate change on Saturday, December 7. I will be attending that day only. Please join me there to learn more about and support farmer leadership for climate solutions. Here is a link with more details and the applicable registration fee:

3. Donate money to the Iowa Democratic Party by December 31.

If we want Democrats to be able to compete across Iowa – and we need to in 2026 with seven statewide elections on the ballot (US Senate, Governor, Secretary of Agriculture, Attorney General, Auditor, Secretary of State, and Treasurer), plus four Congressional races, and State Senate and State House races – we need more volunteers and more money.

Can we raise $1 million or more by the end of the year to lay the foundation for campaign work in all 99 counties across Iowa? That’s 5,000 contributions that average $200 or more. You can contribute to the Iowa Democratic Party by mailing a check to “Iowa Democratic Party,” 5661 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA 50321, or online at this link:

4. Iowa Interfaith Power & Light statewide conference in Grinnell, Saturday, March 29

Please save the date for “Called to Climate Action,” the annual conference of Iowa Interfaith Power & Light, at Grinnell College on Saturday, March 29. Iowa IPL is a non-profit organization helping people of faith and conscience respond to the climate crisis with action and advocacy. (I am the board chair for Iowa IPL and would love to have you join me in Grinnell for the day.)

I hope this information is helpful. If you have questions or suggestions, please feel free to send me an email or give me a call. I hope to see you soon.
