Barbara Ehrenreich died last week at the age of 81. She was the author of more than 20 books, including her best-known, “Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America.” I read Nickel and Dimed years ago and found it profoundly moving.

Barbara Ehrenreich was a remarkable woman. Her intelligence, incisive use of language, her humour, her modesty and above all her humanity inspires and humbles me. I was reading ‘Natural causes’ when she died, and looking forward to her next book.
The world, my world, will be poorer without her.
