As you know, April marked the tenth birthday of Democracy for America and Blog for Iowa.
Linda Thieman was BFIA’s first editor. Much is owed to her. Fortunately, all of her posts are still available in the archives. Linda remembers that “Blog for Iowa was originally hosted by an excellent company called Blog Harbor, which used the Blogware platform. But after 8 years, Blogware was discontinued, so we redesigned the blog and moved it free of charge and completely intact to Word Press, with many thanks to Blog Harbor’s service, Press Harbor.”
In honor of Sarah Palin’s recent visit to Iowa, here is an excerpt from a favorite article that Linda wrote about the possibility of Alaska seceding from the Union, as desired by the husband of Sarah Palin.
So What if Alaska Did Secede from the Union?
October 25, 2008
“Sarah Palin is something of an enigma to me. On the one hand, she only approves of the “pro-America” parts of America. On the other hand, she’s married to a guy who wants Alaska to secede from the Union.
As President for Life, Palin could then nationalize the oil industry in Alaska, and send an ambassador to OPEC to learn how to gouge the lower 48. It’s a win-win situation for Alaska, although if their next door neighbor to the left, Russia, decided to pull a Cheney and invade Alaska for their oil, I can’t say as I think Canada would come to the defense of The Independent State of Alaska, no matter how recently a mutual-defense treaty had been signed. So, that could be a bit of a drawback, unless Alaska quickly formed a militia made up of moose hunters with shot guns.” (Click here to read the entire article)
Thank you Linda for starting up Blog for Iowa and for all of your continued support!
We had more happy birthday wishes come in from Deaniacs Dave Leshtz, Jeani Murray, Molly Regan and Mike Carberry. But Peter Hansen will get the last word (for now) about the Dean campaign.
“For me the most memorable part of the Howard Dean presidential campaign was the excitement, enthusiasm and optimism that we all possessed. Dean had experience, ideas, common sense and a marvelous personality. One cannot help but wonder how different this country would be had we elected him president back in 2004.”
