Monday, we talk with Kevin Adair. Also joining us, State Sen. Jack Hatch, one of three Democratic candidates for Governor. And we’ll get Frank Strong’s take on the wisdom of issuing gun permits to the blind.
Tuesday, we talk with Robert Nehman of Allamakee County Protectors about the latest developments in the effort to stop frac-sand mining. Also, Diane Rosenberg talks about Jefferson Farmers and Neighbors‘ great line-up of speakers at its upcoming annual meeting. That line-up includes Lynne Henning, the 2010 Goldman Environmental Prize winner, and Charlie Speer and Richard Middleton, two top national CAFO-fighting attorneys and winners of multimillion-dollar lawsuits.
Also Tuesday, ISU grad student Angie Carter discusses the upcoming visit of Frances Moore Lappe to Iowa State University. Lappe will be joined by Ugandan urban farmer, Harriet Nakabaale, and Tanzanian pastoralist, Ms. Kijoolu Kalima.
Wednesday, Barilla America is in hot water after its CEO tells gays they can go eat pasta elsewhere. Apparently, many are taking that advice . . . as are lots of straight pasta lovers as well. Also, we talk about how Governor Branstad is a man on the go, and how his haste to get to the next ribbon cutting is digging an ever deeper political hole for him to crawl out of. Finally, we share comedian Lee Camp’s statement endorsing the Climate March, and take a look at a disturbing graphic charting warming trends.
Thursday, Jonathan Narcisse is my guest. Also, Ron Yarnell is back in the studio. And we talk with Chad Elliott and Bonita Crowe about “The Grapevine” and its great line-up of upcoming concerts.
Friday, Marybeth Gardam analyzes the McCutcheon vs Federal Election Commission case. Billionaire Shaun McCutcheon argues that the $123,000 limit on contributions for individuals to election campaigns and candidates is too low and infringes on his first amendment rights. Marybeth says “this bit of tripe is being served up by Attorney Jim Bopp, who also represented Citizens United. If the Court passes this, it is the last hurrah for democracy.”
Also Friday, I use the words “You go dude!” and “Doug Gross” in the same sentence for the very first time ever, as we discuss Gross’ prediction (perhaps read “promise?”) that fellow-Republican Congressman Steve King will have a primary opponent in 2016. I say, why wait until 2016?
Finally on Friday, we analyze the recent IPCC report citing with 95% certainty that climate change is caused by humanity. Sorry deniers, the verdict is in. Can we move on and begin to do something about it?
