Alex Lawson of Social Security Works to Speak at PACG

DAVENPORT— Progressive Action for the Common Good will host Social Security Works executive director Alex Lawson at their next Community Networking Night on Thursday, July 25, at 6 p.m. Lawson will give an hour long presentation titled, “Taking Back the Message,” on preserving and strengthening Social Security.

Social Security Works is the convening member of the Strengthen Social Security Coalition— a coalition made up of over 340 national and state organizations representing over 50 million Americans. Lawson previously served as the communications director for the organization. In his current role, he coordinates the multifaceted education and advocacy operations to protect and improve the economic security of disadvantaged and at-risk populations while maintaining Social Security as a vehicle of social justice.

Lawson received his master’s degree in public policy from George Washington University and previously worked with Media Matters, Campaign for America’s Future, and Health Care for America Now campaign. Lawson started his work in policy in the field of public health with a focus on HIV/AIDS, doing research for the Whitman-Walker Clinic and founding DC Fights Back, a grassroots advocacy group that focuses on HIV epidemic in Washington, D.C.

The mission of Social Security Works is to protect and improve the economic status of disadvantaged and at-risk populations, and in so doing, to promote social justice for current and future generations of children as well as young, middle-aged and older adults.
