Monday, Branstad’s “Reign of Error” is part of our conversation in today’s Weekend Review. We also talk about clandestine plans to build another casino in Polk County – and why gambling attracts both corporate and political corruption. We also have a little fun and explain the connection between Wimbledon and climate change. (Yes, the connection is there; trust me.) Finally, speaking of climate change, we visit with Steven Norris and Ted Glick about the “Walk for Our Grandchildren.”
Tuesday, in A New Beat on Learning, we meet Susan Liesland and Haley Wedmore as we explore the Waldorf approach to education.
Wednesday, we get an update on the horrific wildfires raging in the West. We also talk about how some shoe manufacturers are abandoning third-world sweatshops and beginning to move jobs back to the United States. We also take a look at food banks that are getting into the “Buy Local” movement.
Thursday, Ron Yarnell in State Rep. Dan Kelley are my guests, with topics yet to be determined.
Friday, Dr. Charles Goldman and I discuss the recent Supreme Court rulings. Most of the news coverage has been on the marriage equality decisions. But it’s important to sort through what happened with the Voting Rights Act and Affirmative Action. Also, joining us for this week’s Climate Beat is David Goldstein, a contributing writer to the Huffington Post, who discusses the link between climate change and the wildfire that killed 19 firefighters near Yarnell, Arizona. Goldstein says that while it’s not possible to tie any specific event to climate change, we can certainly predict that extreme events such as the West’s fires are more likely to occur – and with greater intensity – because of climate change.
