Iowa National Day of Service Events

national day of service

From Sue Dvorsky, Chair, Iowa Democratic Party

This weekend, the First and Second Families are continuing the tradition they started four years ago with a National Day of Service on January 19th, 2013. To honor the life and legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., they’re asking Americans to find an event and serve with others in their community.

And just like four years ago, Iowans will again have an opportunity to participate in National Day of Service at several locations around the state. For a list of Iowa locations near you, click here.

I’m also happy to announce that in addition to participating in the day of service, community members of central Iowa will be hosting a family-friendly local Inauguration Celebration at the Des Moines Science Center. This inauguration celebration will be Monday, January 21st from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. According to the organizers, generous donations received have made it possible to host this free inauguration celebration.  A wide variety of activities will be available for children. Light food and cake will be served and a cash bar will be available. For more details or to RSVP for this event, please click here.

If other Iowa groups are planning Inauguration weekend events, please let us know and we will be more than happy to help you promote it!

Meanwhile, for a complete schedule of 2013 Presidential Inaugural Committee’s events, click here.

This is an exciting time, I hope everyone enjoys themselves. You earned it!
