Dear Friends,
Two weeks ago, a man stopped by the Occupy Des Moines camp and left a coat for anyone who might need it. In the pocket of that coat was this message:
“I’m a single father. I don’t have a lot of resources I can give. I can’t afford to get arrested, and I can’t even spend as much time down here as I would like to. My girls and I lost our home after fighting Citibank for three years. It threw me into bankruptcy, fighting them. And all the while I watched the company that showed us no mercy get handout after handout from my government. Thanks for being here for me. Thanks for being here for all of us. I hope this coat keeps you warm.”
That’s a powerful statement, and it helps motivate me – and perhaps it will motivate you, too – to keep going, to do everything possible to bring about justice in our land. It also clears-up the falsehood spewed by some detractors, who want people to believe that occupiers are no-good, unemployed, unkempt whiners looking for a handout or a date.
Monday, I’ve got Charles Goldman in the studio with me. Charles ponders thus: “Punishing the too-big-to-fail zombie banks like Citicorp and Bank of America will not revive the American economy, but it certainly will re-introduce some moral hazard back into their business models.??”
Tuesday, I’ve got a hodge-podge of issues to throw at you, and we’ll have plenty of open line time to share as well.
Wednesday, attorney Jim Larew and someone from the insurance industry discuss issues related to property-casualty insurance. We’ll look specifically at the gale-force windstorm that nailed Tama and Benton counties earlier this year.
Thursday, Angela Clark, local rape survivor and healing arts professional, speaks-up about Penn State and the misconceptions about this “scandal.” Angela feels we should call it what it is: a violent act with s-e-x as the weapon. Angela points out, “If a gun had been used, it would be a different story for most folks.”
