Loebsack To Host Medicare Open Enrollment Information Sessions

Dear Friend,

I invite all interested Iowans to join me next week to learn more about the Medicare options available and how to avoid becoming the victim of Medicare fraud.  These Medicare Fraud Prevention and Open Enrollment Information Sessions will feature experts from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Iowa Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) and will take place in Muscatine, Coralville, Ottumwa and Centerville. The details of these events are below.

Medicare open enrollment is happening now, which means Medicare recipients have until December 7th to make changes to their health insurance and prescription drug plans for next year. During open enrollment, Medicare recipients can choose to switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan or vice versa.  CMS experts will provide information about the plans at the meetings I’m hosting next week.  In addition, Medicare has set up a website to help beneficiaries review their options and make a decision about what plan is best for them. To change plans, Medicare recipients can visit medicare.gov/find-a-plan to find plan options in their area or call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) to speak with a customer service representative.

As part of my ongoing efforts to protect seniors from fraud and to prevent abuse of federal programs, seniors who attend my meetings will also learn about ways to be on the lookout for Medicare fraud. Such fraudulent activities may involve being billed for services that they did not receive or being asked for their financial information or Social Security number.  The CMS representatives will provide information on how to best protect yourself from becoming a victim of fraud.

Below are the details of the Medicare Fraud Prevention and Open Enrollment Information Sessions I am hosting. Please feel free to pass this information along to your friends, family and neighbors.  I look forward to seeing you next week.
