Dear Friends,
Just when I thought Republicans couldn’t field a presidential candidate more out-of-touch with reality than Michele Bachmann, along comes Rick Perry. While an unprecedented chunk of his home state burns to the ground, Perry pontificates about the “myth” of global warming. Check out this CBS video.
A myth? Really? Over 95 percent of climate scientists are convinced global warming is the byproduct of human activity. Yet that’s not good enough for Perry. Regarding the conflagration in Texas, Bill Peterjohn, a West Virginia University biology professor, says: “Climate extremes are consistent with the idea that the odds associated with such events increase as surface and water temperatures rise.”
Tom Boggus, director of the Texas Forest Service, said recently: “It’s historic. We’ve never seen fire seasons like this. We’ve never seen drought like this.” Ok, so Boggus doesn’t come out and say climate change caused the fires. But read between the lines and it’s hard to imagine Boggus doesn’t get it.
Perry, on the other hand, just doesn’t get it. Not on climate change, not on most issues. Mitt Romney at least seems to respect science when it comes to climate change. Yet Perry now leads Romney by ten percentage points in the polls.
Monday, Charles Goldman and I talk about America’s Perry Problem. Tea Party-types, Christian extremists and Corporate America might love a Perry Presidency. But what would that look like for the rest of us?
Tuesday, Joe Hrdlicka with the Iowa Telecommunications Association joins me to discuss an issue that doesn’t get near enough attention: the importance of broadband internet to rural Iowa.
Wednesday, Jake Velie with Healthy for Life is my guest from 7:00-7:30. Then Ying Sa of Community CPA and Associates answers tax and accounting questions.
Thursday’s program is still a work in progress. But I’ve been gone for two weeks and we should have no trouble finding a timely topic or two to dig into.
My apologies for not getting the Events Calendar fully updated, but check out the events page of my website and I’ll post new happenings as I’m able to edit them.
So, tune in at 98.3 WOW-FM and online. You can download the Fallon Forum as a podcast, too. And don’t forget to visit The Fallon Forum website at fallonforum.com. Thanks!
Ed
[Note from BFIA: While we’re on the subject of Rick Perry, have you seen this video of him at the Hamburg Inn telling a University of Iowa student who was asking a question that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about and giving him a poke in the chest? If it was a Democrat, they’d be saying: “Does this man have the temperament to be President?”]
