This Week On The Fallon Forum: Who Is The Wackiest Of Them All?

Monday – Thursday from 7:00-800 pm, join us for the fusion of politics and civility at 98.3 WOW-FM and on-line at 983wowfm.com.  Call (515) 312-0983 or (866) 908-TALK to participate in the conversation.  If you miss the show, you can hear it as a podcast and please help support local progressive talk radio with a donation through Pay Pal or by check to PO Box 13421, Des Moines, IA 50310.

Dear Friends,

For the next few months, the Fallon Forum will feature a new subtext: “Over-turn Bachman’s Drive.” We’re working hard to make sure the wackiest thing since sliced banana worm bread doesn’t get to impose her corporate theocracy on America.

Not that Michele Bachmann doesn’t have plenty of company when it comes to bizarre. Presidential wannabe Rick Perry recently laid-out several wacky ideas of his own. In one, he claims that the founding fathers’ concern to provide for the “general welfare” doesn’t justify Medicare or Social Security. Hopefully, all those Iowans over 65 who voted for Perry in the Straw Poll took that into consideration and will excuse the founders for their lack of foresight.

While there is no question that some adjustments need to be made to keep Social Security financially solvent, abolishing it is just so much crazy talk . . . crazy enough, in fact, that Charles Goldman and I will discuss it on tonight’s program. That’s Monday folks. Please tune in.

Tuesday, you’ll have a chance to hear way more of my voice than is medically advised. I’m on from 1:00-4:00, filling in for Bradshaw. Then at 7:00 pm, Polk County Supervisors Angela Connolly and E.J. Giovannetti discuss the pros and cons of the proposed new boundaries for Polk County’s five supervisor districts.

Also Tuesday, Jim Jacobson with Service Employees Union International (SEIU) talks about a major Jobs Rally planned for this coming Saturday in Des Moines. The focus of the rally is to “make sure that creating jobs is the number one priority for Congress when it’s back in session.”

Wednesday, we do Q & A with Jake Velie of Healthy for Life. Jake will field health-related questions from any caller (yeah, even you Frank). He’ll also share testimonials from folks he’s worked with and customers who have benefited from his company’s organic dietary supplements.

Also Wednesday, we’ll talk with The Iowa Independent’s Lynda Waddington about her take as a reporter dogging the presidential candidates as they trek across Iowa.

Thursday, State Rep Dan Kelley (D-Newton) talks about education. School board elections are coming up on September 13th. And it’s not too early to get the lay of the 2012 legislative landscape, as issues affecting Iowa’s schools, colleges and universities are again likely to be front-and-center.

So, tune in at 98.3 WOW-FM and online. You can download the Fallon Forum as a podcast, too. Thanks!

Ed
