Democrat David Johnson Will Challenge Kaufman In New House District 73

Republican State Representative Jeff give a handgun to a schizophrenic bill  Kaufmann (HD 79) has a Democratic challenger, David Johnson of West Branch. Johnson is a Gulf war vet and a former West Branch City Council member, employed at UI Office of the Registrar.  It would be nice if a Democrat could take the newly redistricted seat that lies mostly in Cedar County, and extends to Solon and part of Iowa City as well. Hey, Iowa City, do you know who is representing you in the state house?

Here is an excerpt of a statement by Johnson on education.

“Part of what defines a candidate’s set of values is what he or she believes to be a legitimate role of government. Republicans and Democrats alike, for example, agree on the role of government in providing for national defense. In the area of education, however, there seems to be some divide. Over the years Republicans have been pushing the concept of reduced spending on public education and diverting those funds to a voucher system. I believe this is the wrong approach.”
