Iowa Wins on Low Power FM

Iowa Wins on Low Power FM

by Paul Deaton

In late breaking news, the United States Senate passed the Local Community Radio Act approved by the House of Representatives yesterday and the bill now goes to the President's desk for signature. This legislation significantly improves conditions for local communities to start Low Power FM radio stations.

Dave Bradley of Blog for Iowa has written extensively on the topic, and if you have been following his posts, check out the Prometheus Radio Project story on the Local Community Radio Act here.

This lame duck session of congress is proving to be a work horse for the Senate, with Senate debate on Don't Ask Don't Tell and an Amendment to the New START Treaty going on simultaneously in the Senate this afternoon. In addition, the Senate voted on the DREAM Act, which was rejected on a cloture vote, to fund the government for a few more days, on the Confirmation of Ellen Lipton Hollander, of Maryland, to be United States District Judge and on Don't Ask, Don't Tell, which was agreed to.
