Pearl Harbor Day
Today we commemorate the anniversary of the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.
I grew up hearing the story from both of my parents (now deceased), of how they enlisted in the armed services following this event. They were proud to be veterans. Their decision to help the war effort was a point of honor, an act of patriotism. They both served in the Navy.
Remember to thank a veteran today.
My older brothers were too young. In my grandmother's diary, she writes how three of her sons drove up to Minneapolis on Dec. 9, 1941 to enlist. Japan & Germany are now among our closest allies. Iran, Venezuela, & Somalia will hopefully share good relations with us in a decade or two. And the times, they are a'changin'.
