Great Tool: Project Vote Smart

A knowledgeable electorate is the strongest component of a functioning democracy. Information about elected officials and candidates is crucial to maintaining the defense of one's rights and privileges guaranteed in the Constitution. In that spirit, Project Vote Smart (PVS) provides a comprehensive database about thousands of candidates and elected officials for President, Congress, Governors and State Legislators. Less detailed information is available at the county and local level for each state.

Project Vote Smart covers these candidates and elected officials in five basic categories:

· Background and contact information
· Issue positions, provided by candidates through our National Political Awareness Test (NPAT)
· Voting record
· Campaign finances
· Interest group ratings from over 100 groups across the ideological spectrum

The PVS website also includes:

· Public statements made by U.S. Senators and Governors
· Voter registration forms for each state
· Contact information for state and local election offices
· Polling place and absentee ballot information
· Ballot measure descriptions for each state, where applicable
· Links to federal and state government agencies, political parties and issue organizations

Congress Track

Project Vote Smart provides easy access to information on the United States Congress, including Key Votes, Recent Votes, a Status of Appropriation Chart, Other Congressional Resources and Week at a Glance which details major actions taken to legislation on the floor of Congress.

Voter Registration

Do you have questions about Voter Registration? Check out the Voter Registration section of the PVS website. Information can be found on the Deadline to Register, the Qualifications, where you can get a Voter Registration Form, and Absentee Ballot information for every state.

If you have questions, call the toll-free Voter's Research Hotline (1-888-VOTE SMART) to speak with a researcher.

Hi Linda — sorry to be off-topic. Alta sent me an email telling me about the new Iowa Blog. It's really beautiful. Y'all did a great job. I took a look at the Blogware package. looks pretty good.
Hey, also, y'all go by the initial DFIA? I love it… That's great!
I gave DFA the domain DFA2.com but so far they don't seem to use it so I update it every now and then. It's meant to be a shortcut / quick way to get to DFA and BFA …. I think I'll add links to the states that are really organized and making hay.
    Iowa
    Washington DC
    Georgia
    CA
these top my list — just based on who I know from DFA1. What other states have gotten off to a strong start in their new DFA2 modes?
    thank you…
And a big round of applause for Alta! Without her, I would never have made it to Iowa to shoot such great documentary footage the 2 weeks leading up to the caucus… Only problem is, she's probably wondering “why the hell haven't I seen any of it yet?”… Though she would say “heck” not hell 🙂
Also. if Karene (sp? – sorry) is reading this, I have not forgotten about your DVDs and CDs with photos. Can we talk? please email me: rh@deanport.com

    Hi, Richard!
You're right – Alta WOULD say heck! LOL
Kentucky is doing a great job, but they don't have a website up yet. You can read up on what they are doing on BFA – Wed., May 5. Oh, NC, too, but I forgot to check if their site is up.
And thanks for your kind words re BFIA!
