You may have heard of the trans-Atlantic boat trip taken by Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg in recent weeks aboard a zero emission sail boat. The teen age activist who launched worldwide school strikes last year is back to do it again this year. With July of 2019 now the hottest month on record for the world, it is readily apparent that world saving work is out there to be done.
Most of the school strikes this year are scheduled on September 20th. Iowa does not have any school strikes for the climate scheduled based on the website set up for this round of strikes.
The closest strikes to Iowa are in Omaha, Nebraska, Chicago, Illinois and Morris, Mn. Climate change is an existential crisis.

Here Greta Thunberg discusses the climate situation with DemocracyNow!’s Amy Goodman (47 minutes):
I’m a little confused about the various climate strikes and climate actions. I did google Sierra Club Climate Strike, however, and found a map that showed several climate gatherings in Iowa on 9/20, The site said everyone is welcome to show up, whether they are seven years old or seventy. I’m closer to seventy than school-age, but plan to go to one of the Iowa gatherings. They aren’t school strikes, but maybe they’ll get some attention.
I am grateful older people can go to the Iowa events. I rarely go to such events because I’d rather write letters, go to official meetings, take personal action, etc. But this is THE issue of my lifetime, and to put it bluntly, my generation has really been blowing it. I owe it to young activists to show up.

I was going by the website I highlighted in the story. Usually an effort like this has a steering committee and one website for the overall event. Interesting that that other groups are sponsoring other events. Thanks for the info. If you have that link to the Sierra club, please past along and we would be glad to post it.

Thanks, Dave! Your comment was a good explanation of why I am confused:-). Here’s the link I found.
