Why Is Facebook Buying Local News Outlets?

Facebook to invest $300 million to help local news survive.

If someone is going to own local news outlets, do we prefer that it be Sinclair Broadcasting or Facebook?  I would vote for Facebook as the lesser of two evils.

The Reuters article reported Facebook’s reason for investing in local news sources

“We’re going to continue fighting fake news, misinformation, and low quality news on Facebook but we also have an opportunity, and a responsibility, to help local news organizations grow and thrive.”
