If I recall correctly, the Iowa legislature tries to adjourn by the end of April. With the lock Republicans have on government, it is doubtful they will run into any snags. They can pass anything and Reynolds will sign it and there isn’t a lot that Democrats can do about it. Unfortunate, but that is reality in Iowa these days.
This is also the time of legislature where, in the past several sessions, Republicans have brought extremely controversial legislation from nowhere to ram through. Let us hope there are no surprises this year as what they have done and are trying to do is bad enough.

Well, just got this fund raising email from the Iowa Democratic Party. Looks like IPERS may become a late session issue.
House Republicans found a back door approach to destroying Iowa’s pensions.
HSB 165 would cripple local government’s ability to fund IPERS and the 411 system, which is the retirement pension for our police and firefighters.
These pensions are strong and secure. They help hundreds of thousands of Iowans retire with dignity.
State House Republicans want to end the retirement security of Iowans by killing IPERS and giving more handouts to the special interests and their millionaire friends.
It’s not surprise there are only THREE right-wing special interest groups that support this bill, including the Koch Brothers and Iowans for Tax Relief.
They thought they could confuse you. They thought you wouldn’t notice. Help us protect IPERS by sending them home!
With sincere thanks,
